Test Your Design
Module: UX / Interactive Design | Level: Easy | Estimated Time: 1-2 days
Skills: User Testing & Validation
UX begins and ends in the same place—with users. Now, it’s time to validate and improve your ideas through user testing. First, write out a research plan:
- What are your research objectives?
- What do you hope to learn from users who are testing your designs?
- What are the hypotheses you want to validate?
Once you have clarity on those answers, write your research questions. Give users actionable goals (e.g., “add a profile picture”) rather than instructions (e.g., “click that to view your friend list”) to see how easily they navigate your design. What would make their experience clearer and more pleasant? Do you notice any hiccups in the user flow?
Upon finalizing your research plan, find people who use your chosen app/website and observe them using your prototype, either in person or through shared screens. The most valuable feedback often comes from users’ actions, but don’t hesitate to ask open-ended questions too.
Present your research objectives and the hypotheses you set out to validate. Then, summarize the results of your user testing and identify where your design could improve based on your analysis of the results.
Upload the finished project to your Skillshare portfolio.
Write a blurb explaining your design approach and points of feedback you’d like to receive.
