Lifestyle Onboarding Flow

Module: UI / Product Design | Level: Medium | Estimated Time: 2-3 days Skills: UI Patterns, Visual Design, Branding, Layout

Overview

In this brief, you’ll design an onboarding flow for a lifestyle product (e.g., dating app, fitness tracker, clothing brand). This is what users see the first time they open the app, so it’s crucial to make a good impression!

Onboarding flows can include:

  • Splash screen or welcome page
  • Carousel slides highlighting key concepts
  • Tutorials, walkthroughs, or product tours
  • Coach marks or hints as users explore the product
  • Personalization (e.g., choose interests, customize profile)
  • Quiz with tailored results that prompt action
  • Brief videos

Only pick elements that make sense for your product. Do you need specific info from the user at this point? Which features need explaining? No matter what your flow includes, your goal is the same: communicate purpose, demonstrate value, and get users started as effortlessly as possible.

Keep the onboarding quick and the copy short. If the process is long, complex, or requires early commitment (e.g., payment info), users may back out. Don’t overwhelm with too much information—highlight only a few key features and show one tip at a time.

Lastly, see if you can make the process personal and fun. Are there ways to make the user feel special (e.g., “Welcome, Julia” or “Our top picks for you”)? Can you engage with interactive elements, graphics, animation, gamification, progress bars, humor, etc.?

Deliverables

Design a web or mobile onboarding flow for a lifestyle product (e.g., cooking, health, parenting, fashion). Include a link to a working prototype and/or screenshots of each step.

You can create a fictional lifestyle app or redesign an existing product.
