Learn from the Competition
Module: UX / Interactive Design | Level: Medium | Estimated Time: 1 day
Skills: Competitive Analysis, Content Strategy, Usability & Heuristics
Choose one of your app/website’s competitors and analyze its strengths and weaknesses. (For example, you might compare Uber to Lyft.) You’ll strengthen your design ideas by seeing how the competition solves similar issues—and where their efforts fall short.
Start by comparing the products on a high level. Note how the brand identities and missions differ, whether the competition targets the same user base, and how these factors affect the competitor’s UX.
Next, explore the competitor’s product. Download the app or visit the website and consider the user journey, user flow, usability, etc. How easy is it to navigate, find information, and complete tasks? Do any similar usability issues come up, and how are they addressed?
Present your competitor analysis in any format you like (e.g., slides, graphic, web based).
Upload the finished project to your Skillshare portfolio.
Write a blurb explaining your design approach and points of feedback you’d like to receive.
Give feedback on another student’s project.
